The Fowey fudge pantry was opened by Joel and Mary in June 2015. They first began their fudge story when they opened Roly’s Newquay back in the summer of 2014. Since then they have fudge fans all over Cornwall, owning stores in Padstow and Tintagel as well.
How did Joel and Mary get into the business of fudge? After five years working in and exploring New Zealand and Australia, Joel and Mary returned to the UK to begin what is obviously the ultimate dream – to open their own fudge shop!
Joel is the son of Roly’s Fudge founder Peter Riley. He first opened in Newquay in 2014, now run by a member of his fudge team Lisa. Joel and Mary then went on to open Fowey in June 2015, Padstow in October 2015, and Tintagel in May 2019, with Marazion opening not long afterwards.
Also in the Roly’s Fudge franchise is his sister Gina, who has four fudge shops in the Lake District, Brighton and Chester.
Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the town is located on the west side of the Fowey estuary where the large, deep water harbour is popular amongst sailors. The charming, narrow streets of the old town are rich with medieval and Georgian history and the main street Fore Street is lined with independent shops, now including our Roly’s Fudge Pantry.
Roly’s Fudge Fowey make a wide variety of fudge flavours throughout the year and are always updating their latest flavours with new seasonal additions.
You can find a mix of traditional flavours there, such as Vanilla Clotted Cream Fudge and Maple & Walnut Fudge, but also more contemporary flavours. Look out for our Christmas Pudding flavour in winter – it’s one of Joel’s favourites.
