Roly’s Fudge Barnstaple was one of the first fudge pantries and is now the oldest original shop. It first opened its doors in 1989 by the founder of Roly’s.
It was run by Maggie from 2000 and in 2026 it was taken over by Stuart and Victoria, who also run the Ilfracombe shop, the first in the Roly’s franchise originally taken on by their parents.
Barnstaple itself is one of the oldest boroughs in the UK and has the feel of a traditional market town, dating back to Anglo-Saxon times.
After many years in the Pannier market, it has now moved to 11 Holland Walk, situated just off the High Street towards the cattle market car park.
You can learn more about the history of Roly’s Fudge throughout our website and by clicking here. Better yet, see how we’ve been making our traditional, crumbly fudge since the beginning of Roly’s by visiting us soon!
We use all the same traditional methods and ingredients and make our fudge fresh everyday in front of our customers.

Although they have moved the shop, the owners have kept a few familiar pieces from the old shop.
The original Roly’s man, who stood outside of the Pannier Market shop for many years, has come with them, and the old counter has been repurposed as their packing station.
Stuart and Victoria have also brought in one of our old copper pans, which now sits on the marble table – the same pan used when they went to Harrods to make fudge in store.
